Ashington born Mark Wood has been named in England’s squad of 12 for the first Investec Test against New Zealand which starts at Lord’s on Thursday.
The right arm pace bowler recently toured with the party in the Caribbean against the West Indies, although he did not play.
Last week Wood made his senior debut in England’s one day international against Ireland in Dublin.
He claimed his first wicket before rain forced the game to be abandoned with the hosts on 56-4.
And this week Wood hit a career best 66 with the bat for Durham after going in as night watchman in their victory against Notts.
