Pair ready for selection
ASHINGTON striker Phill Bell and midfielder James Taylor were not disappointed when last Sunday’s FA Carlsberg Vase clash between Shortwood United and the Colliers was postponed.
Manager Gary Middleton’s team selection was clouded in doubt with Bell nursing a hamstring injury and the unwell Taylor suffering from a chest infection.
However, the extra week has worked wonders for the duo.
Bell said on Sunday: “I played in a training match yesterday and have had no reaction – I feel 100 per cent fit and raring to go.
“I’m still doing exercises to maintain my strength and am hoping the injury will not flare up again.
“I would have been available for selection had the game gone ahead on Sunday and touch wood I’m through the worst of the niggle, but I’m lucky because I’ve only missed one game in three weeks.”
Taylor said: “I trained on Tuesday and again on Saturday, and like Phill, I’ve also had no reaction.
“I feel a lot better and am getting my fitness back – but the infection took quite a lot out of me.
“However, I can’t wait for Saturday.”
