Potts and Sharkey destroy Whickham seconds

Ashington seconds continue to head the B1 division after a comprehensive victory over basement side Whickham on Saturday.

Due to rain, the game was reduced to 35 overs per side, but the Colliers bowled out the hosts for 101 with four overs to spare.

Purdy top scored for the Glebe outfit with 29 whilst Matty Potts took 4-28 from eight overs; Ian Sharkey 3-27 from nine and Michael Thewlis 1-18 from seven.

In reply, father and son Doug and Matty Potts got Ashington off to a good start and after Matty had been dismissed for 20, Potts senior (41 not out) and Scott Dunn (36 not out) clinched an emphatic win from the fifth ball of the 16th over.

On Saturday, the Colliers are at home to Lintz.
