Blagdon Park were only 11 runs short of victory when heavy rain forced the abandonment of their game at home to Blyth.

After bowling the visitors out for 75, the home side were 65-2 when play was brought to an end.

Blyth were asked to take first knock and what was to follow was a disaster as Mattie Senior completed a hat-trick in the first over.

Dent was out third ball caught by Foster, Kemp was bowled and Carr trapped lbw.

Harwood and skipper Lawrence steadied the ship and the pair added 44 before a bowling change saw Harwood caught by Collins off Johnson.

Ebdale joined Lawrence, but disaster struck when the latter ran himself out for a top score of 28.

Ebdale followed one run later when he was trapped lbw by Johnson for seven

Quinn and Smith were now at the crease but Smith had scored two when he was bowled by Clark.

Kirkup followed four balls later trapped lbw by Clark without scoring.

Quinn was next out after a defiant 40-ball stay, bowled by the return Senior for 12.

Roberts was last out, caught by Senior off Gibson for five.

Blagdon’s bowling figures were M Senior 4-14, H Blake 0-20, D Gibson 1-15, P Johnson 2-16 and A Clark 2-6.

With the rain falling, Blagdon had to wait before starting their reply.

When it stopped, Gibson and Foster opened the batting with Dent and Ebdale taking the ball for Blyth.

In Dent’s second over Roberts caught Gibson for four and he struck again in his fourth over with the score on 18 as keeper Quinn caught Foster for nine.

Sander and Collins came together and with rain coming again they started to push the score along.

They managed to reach 65 when play was halted as the umpires called the game off with Sander 12 not out and Collins 30 not out.

Blyth’s bowling figures were D Dent 2-35, D Ebdale 0-25 and M Lawrence 0-4.
