ASHINGTON seconds won their second game in a row with a 71-run victory over Ponteland at Langwell Crescent on Saturday.
Dale Ross (33), Martin Thewlis (29) and Matty Storey (21) were the major contributors as the home side scored 161-8 from their allotted 45 overs.
Andy Denyer and David Waters took three wickets each.
In reply, Waters top scored with 19 as five different bowlers were amongst the wickets. Matty Collins took 3-18; Graham Whitworth 2-25; Steve Williams 2-14; Dougie Potts 1-20 and Lee Collis 1-4.
Afterwards, skipper Martin Thewlis said: “It was a good strong test for us against a good bowling side who made us work hard for our runs.
“Nevertheless we thought a score of 140 would have been excellent on that wicket so to end up with 161 was brilliant.”
On Saturday, Ashington seconds are away to Shotley Bridge.
