ON the same day when the first XI were relegated, any lingering hopes that Ashington seconds could win the B1 division title for the fourth year in a row disappeared when a youthful side were on the wrong end of a defeat at Lintz on Saturday.
Matty Collins top scored for the Wansbeck outfit with 40 and Andrew Heatherington chipped in with 33 as the visitors were bowled out for 136.
In reply Collins took 2-15 but Lintz eased to victory.
Ashington senior cricketer Bruce Storey, who came out of retirement to play on Saturday, said afterwards: “Youngster Ben Middleton made his senior debut for the club. He hit a smashing straight four past the bowler, showed promise and fielded well for a lad of his age.”

On Saturday the seconds end their season when they entertain Shotley Bridge at Langwell Crescent.
