Success at the double for Cramlington

RUGBY LEAGUE Cramlington Rockets Under-14s

BARELY six months to the day since Cramlington's latest sporting venture was launched, Cramlington Rockets Under-14s have added a league and cup double to the club's new trophy cabinet.

After relocating in March to meet the demand for rugby league in Northumberland, the club has seen a succession of achievements already.

On top of the teams successes, player numbers have almost doubled to 70 with two new age groups having being formed to cope with the demand, two years ahead of the club's ten-year plan.

And even more impressively, the club is also looking to field an adult side next summer.

Head coach Steven Beaty said: "We always said this move was to meet demand and maximise the potential in the club.

"As far as we are concerned we are doing exactly what we planned.

"But that is not to say we are not extremely grateful that we have managed to do so well.

"The Under-12s came second in the league in their first year, and the Under-10s and Under-8s have been a huge success too.

"Off the field we are doing pretty well too."

The club has also gained the sponsorship of several highly reputable north east companies.

"The vision for the club has always been to be as close to professional as possible in an amateur set-up," said coach Jeff Ball.

"On top of that we are trying to really become a part of the community, which, from having the biggest rugby league camp this summer in the north east, seems to be slowly working.

"And we really want to make the players feel a part of things.

"We have great links with the local professional team, Gateshead Thunder.

"This means we have access to players and match tickets which the players love.

"We want to use this initial success to push on, get more players, sponsors at volunteers and make this not just the best rugby league club in Northumberland, but the best club in any sport.

Cramlington Rockets RLFC are now looking for adults to play in their summer conference.

Training for the teams is every Saturday for ages eight and over at Cramlington Sporting Club.
