ASHINGTON CC seconds extended their unbeaten sequence at the start of the new campaign to four matches after an emphatic ten wickets win over Morpeth seconds at Longhirst on Saturday.
The home side, who won the toss and elected to bat, opened through Wailes and Laycock but the latter was first to go, caught by Ross Sample off James Richards for nine.
Wonders and Jones both hit 15 and Lawn an unbeaten 22 but it was former Ashington batsman Callum Urwin who held the innings together before he was caught by Dale Ross off Mark Hetherington for 56.
Morpeth closed on 153-8 with Richards taking 3-26 from 12 overs.
Stephen Williams took 2-12; Hetherington 1-36 and Callum Storey 1-17.
In reply, Ashington openers Dale Ross and Ross Sample left their own mark on proceedings as they looked at an asking rate of just under three and a half runs per over.
The pair were still together as they led their side home after a magnificent unbroken stand of 154 from 31.2 overs.
Ross smashed 15 boundaries in a 73-ball knock of 88 whilst Sample hit six fours and two sixes in 52 from 99 deliveries.
