Ashington first XI skipper Greg Williams thought his side lost wickets at bad times as they chased down Backworth’s score of 222-6 in their Wellstream Northumberland & Tyneside Senior League A2 clash at the Welfare Hall ground on Saturday.
Williams also thought the home side dominated proceedings in the first half to such an extent that a score well in advance of 250 was being estimated.
“They got off to a good start,” he said.
“Our bowling was alright, just the pitch didn’t do much and it was a good wicket.
“They got away from us and after our spinners had pulled things back a bit, I thought we had a good second half and did well to keep them down to 222 at the end.
“We got off to a bad start with the bat and never really recovered, which was really disappointing.
“A few of the lads looked good in the middle but we lost wickets at bad times.”
