Williams disappointed as weather ruins game

Ashington Cricket Club skipper Greg Williams was disappointed when heavy rain forced Saturday’s A2 division fixture against Whickham to be abandoned.

However, he was delighted with his side as they ended with 237 on the board from 50 overs after being put into bat.

He said: “I lost the toss and had I won it, would probably have bowled first, but it was a good one to lose to be honest.

“In the end, 237 was a really good effort from our lads.

“Dan Grant got us off to a good start at the top of the innings then Simon Prudhoe contributed with a great knock whilst Adam Nichol and Sonu Singh batted really well at an awkward time of proceedings.

“I thought a score of 150 plus would have been a good effort, so I was really chuffed as we ended up with 80 more.

“I was really disappointed when the rain came, but we have picked up 11 points when it could have been a lot worse.”
