THE signing of Teemu Tainio will just be the start of things getting tougher for his new Sunderland team-mates, reckons Nyron Nosworthy.
Tainio signed a three-year deal at the Stadium of Light last night while his new colleagues were struggling to a 1-1 draw with Portuguese top-flight side Vitoria de Setubal.

Judging by the delay waiting for anyone to emerge from the Sunderland dressing room after the final whistle, boss Roy Keane was making his thoughts on the performance clear to his players.

And Nosworthy accepted it just wasn't good enough.

He said: "We allowed our concentration levels to drop and that's not good enough.

"The game was pretty flat and we started slow and Vitoria settled into their stride quicker than we did.

"They relaxed and passed the ball a lot better than us.

"It's disappointing really. The first game out here was a lot better."

Sunderland had a final training session in Portugal this morning before flying home this evening.

When back in training, they'll meet new signing Teemu Tainio for the first time.

Nosworthy said: "Everyone's excited about seeing new players at the club – they'll be welcomed.

"They will make our club stronger and make all of the players here stronger because we will have to rise to the challenge."

Sunderland fly home early this evening and play their next pre-season game in Cork against Cobh Ramblers on Monday.

Nosworthy added: "Overall, it has been an enjoyable trip.

"We've trained twice a day most days and it has been tough when it's needed to be.

"That's what pre-season is all about – getting us in top shape for the first game.

"As time goes on we'll get stronger and stronger."
