Ashington bakery opens new shop in Blyth
An Ashington bakery has expanded into Blyth after purchasing a new shop.
Glenton’s Bakery Limited, established in 2006, now operates nine shops across Northumberland after opening in Blyth.
The award winning business – popular for its sandwiches, cakes, biscuits, breads and savouries – was also able to invest in new machinery thanks to support from Barclays.
The firm, which employs over 50 people, is taking on eight more.
Keith Glenton, managing director, said: “We’ve scaled up the business at pace and decided we had the capacity to launch a new outlet in Blyth.
“We’ve also invested in new machinery which makes our operation a lot more efficient and environmentally responsible and we’re delighted that Barclays has recognised our potential and supported our growth plans.”
Turnover for the business is expected to reach £1.5million for 2020.
Jessica Cowan, Barclays Relationship Manager, helped to arrange the funding deal and said: “Keith and his team really impressed me with their growth plans and we’re delighted to be able to support the business with their ambitious plans which will take them to the next level.
“Having the ability to grow at scale and pace is crucial for high growth businesses and this funding package will provide them with sufficient capital and liquidity to expand their offering and increase their capacity.”
