Visit Northumberland seeks new director to take tourism to a new level

The search for a new head of tourism for Northumberland continues with the deadline for applicants looming.

A new director of visitor economy to spearhead tourism in Northumberland is being sought to ensure the county is best positioned to make the most of the recently relaxed lockdown measures within the tourism and hospitality industries.

Northumberland County Council and Northumberland Tourism have confirmed that the newly-merged Visit Northumberland team will be initially headed up by industry leader Maureen McAllister, of McAllister and Co.

Cllr Cath Homer, cabinet member for tourism, said: “This new role heading up a new brand is a fantastic opportunity for someone to really take tourism in the county to a new level.

"This is a great time for an experienced industry leader to join us following on from Maureen’s great start to spearhead tourism for the county as lockdown is eased.

“Northumberland is a great place to live, work, invest and visit and with tourism at the heart of restarting our economy, we are seeking an industry leader to help us do this.”

David Hall, chairman of Northumberland Tourism, added: “Maureen has made a great start in bringing the council and Northumberland Tourism teams together as part of a Visit Northumberland brand and we really need to ensure that on a permanent basis, we have great leadership in place to drive our economic recovery of the tourism sector.
