Mountune’s MR265 package takes things into motorsport territory – but you still get your factory warranty
Modifying cars means a lot of things. One is treading a fine line between making them better and making them worse; reaching for the stars but running the risk of ending up seeing stars instead.
Another, and it’s not so much a risk as a near-certainty, is that your car’s warranty will do a very good impression of Atlantis the moment the man from the tuning shop puts a spanner on it.
Not so if you’re boosting a Ford product with a Mountune kit, though. These are factory-approved and warranty-friendly – which is no small matter when the top ones can push a Ford’s engine a lot further than standard.
Introducing the MR265. MR stands for Mountune Racing, so this is the hardcore package – the one you choose if the MP215 isn’t fast enough for you.
The numbers in the names tell a tale of output. Which means the MR265 is good for 265bhp, and as good things go that certainly is one. You get 273lb ft, too, and a 0-62 time of 5.7 seconds.
It takes more than just a line of code to get this much more from the Fiesta’s engine, though. You’re talking about a remapped ECU, hybrid turbocharger and more powerful intercooler along with high-flow pipes and silicone hoses.
You’re also looking at £4500, which is a big percentage of the car’s value however you look at it. On the plus side, if you already have a Mountune kit you’ll be able to upgrade to this one, rather than stripping it all away and starting again from scratch; to bump up from MR230 to MR265, for example, would cost you £2500.
What you get for all this money is a much faster Fiesta whose performance, in Mountune’s own words, is ‘hugely impressive with silky smooth drivability’.
Better yet, what you don’t get is the alloys in the main picture. These are optional, so you’ll still be able to drive home afterwards without people laughing and pointing as you go by.
