Bentley has launched a new 626bhp version of the Flying Spur called W12 S, whose fearsome 12-cylinder engine now has enough muscle to give it a top speed of 202mph – making it the fastest-four-door saloon Bentley has ever made.

The rapid limo is also quick against the stopwatch, despite its leather-lined bulk: 0-62mph takes just 4.5 seconds. Not bad for a 2.5-ton behemoth.

All that power is delivered with ruthless efficiency, because the Flying Spur W12 S has all-wheel drive and a creamy automatic gearbox. The plutocrat in the back need not know a thing, particularly as Bentley’s promised the suspension, uprated to handle all this extra speed, suffers no loss of comfort because of the enhancements.

It’s a subtly-styled 200mph car as well. Spotters may clock the new 21-inch alloys, gloss radiator grille and sporty-sounding rear diffuser, but the main sports elements are reserved for the driver: unique trims and a three-spoke sports steering wheel are among them.

If the plutocrat’s pockets are deep enough, they can choose carbon ceramic brakes to give tireless stopping power on racetracks, along with the much more important addition of either red or black brake calipers.

We don’t yet know how much the W12 S is going to cost but, as it all sounds expensive, you can be pretty certain it will be. The base car costs £154,900: don’t be surprised if this 200mph car starts nudging a £200k price tag.
