Jaguar’s E-type is a classic in every sense. You’d think all of the ‘lost’ unrestored examples would have been unearthed by now – but you’d be wrong.

Here’s a 3.8-litre Coupé that has just been extricated from a British barn four decades after it was put there by a chap who bought it for his wife.

PRF 935B is described as “a delightfully unmolested late 3.8-litre Coupé that’s just been exposed to the full light of day for the first time in 40 years and not even been started for 15.” Its most recent MoT was carried out in 1974.

“Considering the perennial popularity of the immortal E-type Jaguar, it’s extraordinary how many have been confined to barns over the years and are only now resurfacing to the delight of new would-be owners,” said Damian Jones of auction house H&H which will be selling it at Duxford on 12 October.

If you manage to buy it at its £35-45,000 estimate, you’ll then need access to a restorer who can sort it out for a total cost that’s less than its restored value.

There are two other options. You may not care about money, in which case you’ll spend whatever it takes to create another perfect E-type (of which there are now many). Or you’ll leave it more or less as it is and enjoy a genuine used car experience.

Watch the E-type creep into the light for the first time in 40 years.
