0-60 in 4.5 seconds, 300-mile range and space for five. Jag’s first EV is no pussy cat
Jaguar has pulled the covers off its first all-electric car – the I-Pace.
The third SUV from the British brand, the I-Pace is the first to be designed from the start as an electric vehicle. It marks Jaguar’s aim to become a key player in the luxury EV market.
With 395bhp, all-wheel-drive and space for five adult passengers, Jaguar claims the I-Pace puts it at the forefront of the EV revolution, with a spacious, practical SUV that still offers the brands’ legendary driving experience.
At the heart of the I-Pace is its all-electric all-wheel-drive powertrain. A 90kWh battery powers two electric motors with a combined output of 395bhp and 513lb/ft, delivering a 0-60mph time of just 4.5 seconds but returning up to 298 miles on a single charge.
Using a rapid 50kW charger owners will be able to get their I-Pace from 0-80 per cent charge in 85 minutes. I-Pace also works with standard 7kW home chargers and will be fully compatible with 100kW chargers as the technology is rolled out across the UK.

To deliver a “true Jaguar” driver-focused experience, the I-Pace’s bespoke EV aluminium architecture uses advanced construction technology to deliver a light, stiff body structure. Together with the structural battery pack, it has the highest torsional rigidity of any Jaguar and thanks to the placement of the battery between the axles offers perfect 50:50 weight distribution.
Advanced double wishbone front and integral link rear axle with optional air suspension has been set up to offer a blend of agility and comfort. Configurable adaptive dynamics will allow drivers to choose between levels of sportiness or comfort.
Without a conventional drivetrain to worry about, Jaguar’s design team, led by Ian Callum, have designed the I-Pace to maximise space. While the sporty, cab-forward exterior was influenced by the C-X75 supercar, the interior is focused on space and comfort. Thanks to the positioning of the battery and motors Jaguar say the mid-sized I-Pace offers the interior space of cars in the class above.
Technology is also key to the I-Pace, with a host of new systems designed to maximise the EV experience, including over-the-air software update.
The I-Pace is the first Jaguar to get the Touch Pro Duo ‘Flight Deck’, infotainment system, which uses twin touchscreens, capacitive sensors and physical controls to operate key functions. There’s also a 12-inch interactive driver display and colour head-up display.
To make sure drivers never run out of charge, the car’s EV navigation system assesses the topography of the route and insights from previous journeys, including driving style, to calculate personalised range and charging status.
And the I-Pace will even let owners check details of their car’s status by simply asking an Amazon Alexa-enabled device a question.
The I-Pace will come in three regular trim levels – S, SE and HSE – plus a special First Edition model. Order books are now open, with prices starting at £63,495.
