As Covid restrictions ease, staff at Cramlington Library are preparing to welcome customers back to choose their own books, use the public access IT and other resources.

The Community Hub building, previously Your Link, will eventually offer the full range of library services including a wider choice from an improved range of books; a larger local history collection; a welcoming library space for children and young people; an evolving public access IT offer and space for a range of events and activities.

Cramlington Town Mayor Loraine De Simone said: “The old library has been sorely missed so this is great news for Cramlington residents.

"The new library will be very welcome and I trust it will be used to the full.”

Some activities will be revived such as creative writing and reading groups, knit and natter, storytimes but with the flexible space to deliver a wider range of activity.

Village Ward Town Councillor Mark Swinburn said: “I am pleased that we will have a library that our residents deserve, somewhere that will be for more than just books, but also more families, access to information and a centre with facilities for the whole community.

"My thanks go to everyone involved to bring this significant amenity into our town.”

Access will be limited for a short while longer as full reopening is anticipated from the June date in the government’s road map.

Library users will ultimately have extended opening hours as previously as the building develops as a community hub.
