Bedlington teachers honoured for their dedication

Teachers at a Bedlington school have been honoured for their long service.

Whitley Memorial C of E Primary School recently awarded members of staff for outstanding long service working for Northumberland County Council.

The total combined service of the nine staff members is 230 years.

Their awards were presented by Reverend Ian Hennebry and Chair of Governors Arleen Thompson.

Mrs Thompson recognised the achievement of the staff which reflects the ethos and camaraderie evident in the school.

Headteacher Claire Gray wanted to thank all the staff for their dedicated service, the majority of which has been at Whitley Memorial.

Cath McEvoy-Carr, Northumberland County Council Executive Director for Adult and Children's Services, said: "This is a phenomenal achievement.

"They have devoted 230 years between them to the children of Northumberland, helping them to learn, thrive and grow and for that we, as the local education authority are extremely thankful.

"Their knowledge, expertise and experience will have been invaluable over the years, supporting their headteachers, those teachers who were still learning or new and guided teaching assistants and support staff. We send our congratulations and good wishes to all of them on this momentous occasion."
