116,000 in Northumberland have had two virus jabs

More than two out of five people in Northumberland have now received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine, new figures reveal.

NHS data shows 116,545 people had received both jabs by May 16 – 43% of those aged over 16.

Of those, 106,068 were aged 40 and over – 55% of the age group – and 10,477 people aged between 16 and 39 have also received both doses.

Across Northumberland 76% of those aged over 16 have received their first jab.

The NHS vaccine data also reveals variation in coverage between different areas for residents who have received at least one dose.

The areas with the highest coverage are Longhorsley, Hepscott and Capheaton, with 89.5% of people aged 16 and over given their first dose

This is followed by Morpeth South and West with 85.3% and Rothbury and Longframlington on 84.5%.

The areas with the lowest coverage are Ashington Hirst (64%), Blyth Cowpen (65.8%) and Seaton Delaval and Seghill (66.2%).

In England, 17.1 million people had received a second dose of the jab by May 16 – 38% of the population aged over 16 and over.

That includes 15.1 million people aged 40 and over – 53% of the age group.

In total, 30.4 million people had received at least one dose of a vaccine by the same date, covering 67% of people over 16.

The figures show 2,979 out of 3,358 eligible care home staff in Northumberland - including agency workers - had received a first dose by May 16 – meaning 11% have not had a jab.
