Ward walks 100 miles in a month
A mental health ward has walked 100 miles in a month after being inspired by Captain Sir Tom Moore.
Staff and service users from Cheviot ward at Northgate Hospital in Morpeth reached the milestone after walking throughout the month of May.
Inspired by the Captain Tom 100 challenge and tying in with National Walking Month, the group walked all through Morpeth, along the river, over stepping stones and around ponds and woodland.
Nursing assistant Taren Chapman said: “Everyone has really enjoyed the challenge and staff were even getting involved on their days off.”
The walks were tracked and put on a display on the ward so participants could track their progress.
Taren added: “It is extremely important for patients to have something to focus on and be able to see how they are progressing. It has made them proud to be part of something and feel like they’ve achieved something.
“It’s a great achievement and we can’t wait to challenge ourselves to something else.”
