BOSSES at the Metrocentre are preparing to mark their 25th anniversary with a bang.
A funfair and free fireworks spectacular is taking place on Friday, October 14, at the centre in Gateshead.
The extravaganza, which bosses believe will be the biggest fireworks display the north east has ever seen, marks the end of a series of celebrations that have been running all year.
Metrocentre opened its doors with the completion of all malls on October 14, 1986; with shoppers, past, present and new invited to the event on Friday.
Fairground rides for children and adults, start at 6pm in the coach park for just £1 a ride and the free fireworks display will begin at 8.15pm.
Metrocentre general manager Tim Lamb said: “We are very excited about our culmination showcase event to celebrate our 25th birthday.
“It’s been a fantastic year for us, where we have been able to thank our customers by giving them a series of fantastic prizes and experiences.
“This event is a massive thank you to everyone who has shopped, played and worked at the centre over the last 25 years. We look forward to seeing a great turnout.”
The fairground will remain in the coach park on Saturday, October 15 and Sunday, 16.
