A former pop singer will be taking on his ultimate roll when a Broadway smash hit musical comes to Newcastle.
Kevin, from Highfields, Killingworth, was part of a pop duo called Chocolate World when he was 21, where they spent six weeks touring around the country with Boyzone.
And now he will play his ultimate role as he takes to the stage as Corny Collins in West End Operatic Society’s production of Hairspray at the Tyne Theatre next month.
Kevin, who now works as a software test analyst for Virgin Money, said: “Corny Collins is a role I’ve always wanted to play.
“He had success in the music business, and then got his own show to host.
“He signifies what it is like to have success and a career in the music business and he has the confidence and charisma as a performer, which I hope that I can try and capture within the role.
“It is a great opportunity for me to relive the days I had when I was up on stage singing and dancing to thousands of people every night.
“The songs Corny sings echoes those of the upbeat songs I performed as part of my own group.”
Hairspray will be at the Tyne Theatre from April 13 to 18. Tickets are available by calling 0844 249 1000 or from www.westendoperaticsociety.com
