Genealogy project’s theatre idea is a success

Newbiggin Genealogy Project has hailed its first venture into theatre as a great success.

Taking place for a couple of hours before the Under Us All production at Newbiggin Maritime Centre last week, the Genealogy Project workshop attracted 20 local people with stories to tell.

In a session led by the director Gwilym Lawrence and actor Gordon Poad, everyone was able to present some information about their own family history.

Project chairman Hilton Dawson said: “It was a very enjoyable and interesting experience.

“This is not the sort of theatre undertaken by professional actors with a whole lot of paraphernalia on a stage, it’s about real life, real situations and absolutely everyone has something to contribute.”
