Barratt Developments North East made significant contributions to the region in 2020.

Despite the limitations the pandemic presented, the housebuilder – which includes Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes brands – built 560 new homes across the region in 2020, supporting over 1,750 jobs in the process.

The boost to the local housing market and construction industry was supported by an £2million investment in physical infrastructure works such as environmental and highway improvements, as well as a £700,000 investment in community infrastructure such as local schools and transport.

The callout for charitable contributions significantly increased during 2020 due to the effects of the pandemic.

Barratt Developments’ Community Fund initiative saw £12,000 donated to 12 different charities and organisations across the North East, all nominated by employees.

The housebuilder also donated £6,000 to support those in need during what was an especially challenging year for many.

As a further boost to the economy, Barratt Developments agreed to repay all the furlough money it claimed for staff who were unable to work during the lockdown.

There was also a commitment to creating homes for nature as well as people, creating 11.9 hectares of greenspace across the region to help support wildlife on and around its sites.

Carl Sobolewski, Managing Director at Barratt Developments North East, said: “We were thrilled to have ended 2020 with such a positive contribution to the region, which has been essentially important during the pandemic, and we’re delighted that our charity donations have made a positive impact on where it’s needed the most.

"As Britain’s largest housebuilder, we're keen to ensure that we’re as sustainable as possible in everything that we do across the region.

"We are fully committed to developing more environmentally-friendly processes that take care of the communities in which we build, especially during this unprecedented time, and will continue to do so in the future.”
