Having grown up watching Disney’s The Lion King and signing along to all the songs, I was desperate to see the stage version when it hit the stage in Sunderland this week.
And I was far from disappointed.
The show burst onto the stage with the vigour I had anticipated, and kept up the pace and rhythm for the entire performance.
Bringing animals to life on stage and really making you feel as if you had been transported to Africa, The Lion King was a truly remarkable piece of theatre from start to finish.
An outstanding performance by Christopher Colquhoun as Scar, who was a wonderfully wicked villain, and the wonderful Thulisile Thusi as Rafifi were my standouts from the night.
Of course the music is at the heart of the show, and it was impossible not to love the classics such as Hakuna Matata, Circle of Life, nd Can You Feel The Love Tonight.
There are also plenty of comic moments from Timon and Pumba, and of course Zazu.
The Lion King will be at the Sunderland Empire until Saturday, November 1. Go and see it while you can.
