The Phoenix Theatre gets its first Oscar

Blyth’s Phoenix Theatre has employed its first professional theatre manager.

Oscar Watson comes to the theatre after years of work in community arts and supporting community enterprises.

He developed a regional network for artists called ‘Intercultural Arts’ based in Newcastle and has a reputation as a successful fundraiser and venue manager.

He has run community centres, pub and community theatres, night-clubs and was responsible for creating the Tristan Bates Theatre at the Actors Centre in London.

Oscar said: “I really want to know what sorts of live entertainment the people of Blyth want to see and, I want to take shows to schools, community centres and anywhere we can find new audiences.”
