TV parody comes to theatre

Taking string quartet performance to a whole new dimension, comedic musicians Bowjangles will bring their TV parody On The Box! to Northumberland next week.

The amusing show that documents a day in the life of a television that has been left switched on is coming to Bedlington Community Centre for a night of multi-dimensional entertainment.

Four energetic musicians parody a variety of familiar programmes, with exhilarating dance routines and rousing songs chucked in for good measure.

Audiences meet hilarious characters such as the Despairing Newsreader, the Operatic Adulterers and the Fleet Footed Strictly Contestants, accompanied by the quartet’s flawless string playing.

While their cherished violins, viola and cello serve as tennis rackets, fencing swords or merely accessories to a full Charleston routine, Bowjangles keep the action roaring and the music soaring.

Fresh from their five-star Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2014 debut, Bowjangles will bring their unique brand of performance to Bedlington in partnership with Highlights Touring Scheme, giving smaller communities a chance to enjoy a night at the theatre.

As part of the scheme, New Rope String Band will perform Give’m Enough Rope, The Farewell Tour, at Seaton Delaval Arts Centre on Sunday, February 15, at 7pm, for an evening of hilarity and Python-esque absurdism spliced with beautiful acoustic music from various world traditions, in a precision-honed yet uproarious performance as part of their Farewell Tour.

On The Box! will be at Bedlington Community Centre in Front Street West, on Thursday, February 19, at 8pm.

Tickets priced at £10 are available by calling the box office on (01670) 824141.
