£100,000 cash boost for grassroots clubs

Sports clubs in south east Northumberland are to receive a cash boost totalling £100,000.

Sports projects across the country will receive a share of £17m from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities fund.

Cramlington Cricket Club will receive £50,000 to build a new clubhouse, which will provide the club with pitch-side changing, showering, toilet, kitchen, storage and lounge facilities.

And Morpeth Rugby Club will also receive £50,000, which will be spent on new floodlights.

The fund helps breathe life into tired community sports facilities and convert buildings into venues suitable for grassroots sport.

Sport England property director, Charles Johnston, said: “The Inspired Facilities fund has had a huge impact on grassroots sport across the country.

“Since 2011, we’ve invested £88m into more than 1,600 projects to improve and refurbish sports clubs and transform non-sporting venues into vibrant community sports clubs.”
