Wildlife in Northumberland will benefit from a funding grant of £5,000.

Northumberland Wildlife Trust will use the cash to undertake conservation work at a woodland reserve in the county.

The first site to benefit is the charity’s Linton Lane reserve, near Longhirst, which has been awarded a grant of £5,000 from the Carillion Natural Habitats Fund to allow a team of estates officers and volunteers to introduce a new woodland management programme which will include improvements to site access and paths.

A large part of the Linton Lane site was part of a former opencast mine, while the western pond was formed by subsidence of deep coal workings.
