Thousands of Christmas trees have been delivered to Seaton Delaval this week in the build up to the festive period.
Edelweiss Christmas Tree Company, based in Double Row, has received more than 7,000 trees, one of the biggest deliveries the company has ever under-taken in the run up to Christmas.
And as householders clear a space for their tree, boss Harry Laidler has given a guided tour of the various trees on offer in a short video.
He said: “The demand for a real Christmas tree has never been greater, which is why we’ve gone overboard this year.
“We’ve been selling Christmas trees for 13 years, and every year we’ve had to buy more and more in to satisfy demand.
“This year we’ve already had a mountain of inquiries from the public and we expect to sell in excess of 7,000 in the run-up to Christmas.”
Harry puts the increased demand down to a mix of popular fashion and a return to traditional values.
He added: “There’s something special about going out and choosing you perfect Christmas tree.
“Modern families are very discerning, and are looking for a tree that best suits their home.
“There was a time when they’d settle for a simple Norway Spruce.
“Now they want a greater choice, which is why we’re bringing in a wide variety of trees from the Fraser Fir to the Lodge-pole Pine.
“They not only look great but they smell fantastic too.
“Buying a Christmas tree is an event, which is why at the weekends we’ve put on a free grotto featuring Santa giving out gifts as well as complimentary mulled wine and mince pies for the parents.”
The Edelweiss Christmas Tree Company operates from Laidler’s Fruit and Vegetable Suppliers in Double Row, near Seaton Delaval.
