Pupils could soon be given their marching orders at a Northumberland school – straight into a new cadet group.
Bedlingtonshire Community High School is to set up a Combined Cadet Force (Army) after approval was given by the Ministry of Defence.
The scheme for 13 to 18-year-olds offers a broad range of challenging, adventurous and educational activities to develop personal responsibility, leadership and self-discipline.
It is hoped to start parading in January.
To join, or for more details, visit www.combinedcadetforce.org.uk or call the school.
The school is also hoping to build stronger ties in the community after its parental partnership co-ordinator Andrew Allman was appointed to East Bedlington Parish Council.
He will take a key role in developing the youth parish council.
