The force may be with pupils in Bedlington as they take on sci-fi mask making.

Bedlingtonshire High School’s Monster Makers club has been set up for youngsters with an interest in science fiction, fantasy or monsters, as well as those with a flair for design and sculpture.

They are taught how to create characters from script and concept design to sculpting, casting and finishing.

The club is led by technician Ray Phillips, a sculptor and prop maker with more than 15 years’ experience of mask making for stage, screen, exhibitions and private collectors.

Initially pupils learn how to create a simple latex face mask, either of their own design or based on a favourite character, before moving on to more complex projects, such as a full over-the-head mask and two-piece moulds.

The club runs every Wednesday.
