An Ashington charity’s dream of starting a community cinema has come one step closer.
Ashington Community Development Trust and local community group the Friends of Central Arcade have been working on a project to bring the big screen back to e town after more than 20 years.
Trust manager Janet Cresswell said: “The Friends of the Central Arcade group has evolved out of some of the people we have talked to and are interested in seeing the old Co-op arcade brought back into use, and the fact that a cinema was one of the things people wanted to see happen has been at the forefront of bringing the arcade back to life.”
Various pieces of equipment have already been sourced thanks to a grant from The Hadrian Trust and cash from Arriva, but a sound system is still required.
The Friends have been helping to fundraise and have organised an event at the White House Social Club on Friday, April 17, where the proceeds will go towards a sound system.
