A Northumberland academy is celebrating after receiving its best ever GCSE results.
Northumberland Church of England Academy (NCEA) in Ashington recorded its best ever results today, with star student Skye Grant achieving a clean sweep of nine A*s in English, maths, biology, chemistry, French, history, literature, physics and RE.
A total of 51 per cent of students gained at least five A*-C grades including English and maths, a 14.7 per cent increase on last year.
The successes continue on from last week’s A level results, also the best in the Academy’s history, and which saw Ashley Davy gain the grades he needed to go on to take up a place at Oxford University to read Mathematics.
NCEA executive director Andrew Day said: “I am immensely proud of the hard work of both the students and the staff of the Academy, which has allowed our children to perform so well in these exams.
“This shows the progress the Academy is making towards being an outstanding school.”
