Advice to trace birth relatives

WITH the increased focus on adoption and social networking in the press recently, many adopted people may consider tracing birth relatives – and vice versa – using sites such as Facebook.

This is a relatively new phenomenon, but one that is here to stay because it enables people to trace family members relatively easily, quickly and cheaply.

However, making contact with birth relatives can be a complex and emotional process.

The British Association for Adoption & Fostering (BAAF) is hosting a live Twitter Chat on Wednesday, January 25 (7pm to 8pm) to discuss the pros and cons of tracing birth relatives online – tag tweets with #adoptfosterchat to join in or follow @BAAFAdoption.
