Afternoon tea in Newbiggin raises £70 for charity
An afternoon tea held by Bedlingtonshire Community High School students at Kier Hardie Court in Newbiggin raised £70 for a breast cancer charity.
A group of year eight pupils at the Bedlington school were given a grant of £420 to pay for the event for residents of the sheltered-housing scheme as part of a project intended to teach the youngsters life skills including teamwork and managing a budget.
The afternoon’s entertainment included musical bingo and a raffle, as well as there being a selection of cakes, scones, sandwiches and hot drinks.
One of the girls involved in laying on the tea, Daisey Wilson, 12, said: “We had an amazing afternoon. It was so much fun to organise.”
Another, Tia Allen, 13, added: “I loved helping the residents and got great pleasure from their happiness.”
The money raised, by a request for donations, will go to the Pink Ribbon Foundation.
