All change at pavilion
Football in Blyth has received a boost with the opening of a new changing pavilion at Broadway Playing Field.
The old changing room was in a very poor condition and beyond repair.
Through its capital investment improvement programme for sports pavilions, Northumberland County Council has provided a new facility that can be used by adult and youth teams playing at Broadway Field.
As well as changing rooms, the new building includes a small kitchen and two fully accessible toilets which have replaced the old toilet block on the field that will shortly be demolished.
Coun Ian Swithenbank, cabinet member for local services, said: “The council is very aware of the importance of sport in promoting a healthy lifestyle as well as for the simple fun of it, and is improving sporting facilities such as this to encourage participation in active sport. It also helps to improve the visual impression of the park area, and encourage its use for recreation purposes.”
Local ward councillor Eileen Cartie said, “I’m delighted to see that the teams that play at Broadway will now be able to benefit from such a great new pavilion. I hope many generations of footballers can enjoy these more comfortable facilities.”
