Police are keeping a watchful eye on thieves who target Bedlington town centre.
Posters featuring imagery of intimidating eyes have been put up in shops in a bid to deter shoplifters and tell them that the police are watching.
Neighbourhood Sergeant Michael Kelliher is hoping the initiative, part of the force-wide Operation Hotspot, will see a reduction in offences.
He said: “We are cracking down on shoplifters and police are now watching them in more ways than one.
“The eyes images are an excellent deterrent and we hope it has a positive impact for the retailers in Bedlington.
“We work closely with businesses in the area and this is just one tactic we are using to prevent these sorts of crimes.
“We are also doing more regular patrols, both uniformed and plain-clothed, to deter offenders and catch those responsible for stealing from shops and businesses.”
