AMENITIES: Put building to good use

I know that Newbiggin is a nice place to live and it has quite a few things going for it, such as the Maritime Centre, etc.

However, it seems to my husband and I that everything is at one end of the village, with nothing at the west end.

There is no post office now, no newsagent, and nowhere for people to go for support of any kind, such as people with cancer, phobias, panic attacks, anxiety, etc.

We have a lovely church with a board saying ‘Community Activity’, yet there appears to be no activities going on. I believe there was something about weddings. Since then we have seen no activities.

Is it not possible for the owner to open it up a couple of days a week for people who would benefit from meeting up with others in a similar situation as themselves, who could give and receive support in self-help groups?

Support groups are invaluable, with people giving and receiving both emotional and physical support. I am unable to run a support group, but more than willing and happy to join one and meet up locally.

Could there not be an afternoon set aside once a week for an afternoon sequence tea dance?

I am sure if the owner made a small charge for these things, it would go a little way to giving back what he/she had paid out for the building.

I would like to think something of that sort could be arranged for those of us living at the west end of the village, as well as the other end too.

I would appreciate it, if there are any such groups locally, for people to let me know of them please.
