Appalled by destruction and debris after drinking binge

It is Bank Holiday Monday and I have just walked down Bedlington’s Front Street and I am appalled at the level of destruction, debris and broken glass that is liberally scattered around after the Sunday drinking binge.

I admit that when the licensing laws were eased a few years ago I supported the idea because I thought mature people would now pace their alcohol intake, but sadly I was very much mistaken.

The young people of Bedlington, and elsewhere, just cannot handle their drink.

If pubs and clubs will not or cannot stop their customers leaving their premises with bottles and glasses they should pay an extra levy to help clear up the aftermath caused by their lax vigilance.
