Appeal following report of rapes at the same location in Northumberland

Police are investigating two reports of rape in the Ashington area.

A woman said to officers that she was raped by two different men in a wooded area off Black Close Bank between noon and 12.30pm on Saturday, May 19.

The first suspect is described as a white male in his 50s, around 5ft 5ins tall, of medium build with short grey hair. He was wearing a polo shirt with checked shorts and is believed to have driven away in a dark-coloured car.

Minutes after the first incident, in the same location, a second unknown male is reported to have raped the same woman before leaving on foot.

The second suspect is described as a white male in his 40s, taller than 5ft 3ins, of large build with short hair. He was wearing a zip-up dark jacket, blue jeans and was carrying a hessian bag.

Detective Constable Nicola Bell said: “A thorough investigation is under way.

“We have increased patrols in the area and would like to assure the local community that we are doing everything possible to bring those responsible to justice.”

Police are appealing for help from the public and anyone who was in the area and may have seen or heard anything suspicious is asked to call 101 – quoting reference 1187 of 19/05/18.
