Appeal for help pays off for parish
Thanks to a photograph published recently in the News Post Leader, a family who had searched for years for a picture of their grandfather now have one.
Members of an extended family from Bedlington Station, who have never met, are also now in touch.
East Bedlington Parish Council’s appeal for information about veterans of the First World War has uncovered a miner from Cambois who was taken prisoner of war; young war widows who found new husbands to help them raise their bairns; stories of soldiers buried in many countries, far from home; a family who visited a war grave and took with them a pot of Bedlington Station Station soil.
Please keep these stories coming, especially if you know anything about the men who returned from the war to try to re-build their lives.
Women too enlisted. On the memorial tablet in Bedlington Station Primary School are the names of four young women associated with the school: Jane Kinghorn, Annie Short, Hilda Temple and Lily Wilson. What do readers know about them? Email firstname.lastname@example.org or phone on 01670 828808.
