An Ashington pupil is celebrating after winning one of the top prizes in a popular
annual challenge for primary schools.
Arjun Narayan, nine, from St Aidan’s RC Primary School, has been announced as a winner of Make Your World Bigger 2018, a video challenge designed to keep children learning during the summer holidays.
Organised by Discovery Education, the competition encourages pupils to join a 30-day film adventure, watching a daily Discovery video clip to learn something new.
Nearly 8,000 pupils took part in the challenge.
Answering questions along the way, and enjoying fun activities such as den building and stargazing, Make Your World Bigger encourages children to be curious about the world around them using films about geography, technology and space.
Year 5 pupil Arjun was one of 10 national winners and was presented with his prize at a school assembly.
He received a Discovery goody bag packed with gifts and gadgets, including a VR headset, telescope and butterfly garden.
Arjun said: “I feel really grateful for the prizes I won. I did not expect to win, I entered just for fun and for something to do over the summer holidays.”
His teacher Mrs Teer said: “The pupils had to watch film clips about the world they live in and submit answers to questions relating to what they found out. I am thrilled that Arjun took the time to complete the task and had the opportunity to win.”
