An armed robber was left empty handed after targeting a store.

A masked man armed with a knife and metal bar entered the Norvell store, in Renwick Road, Blyth, at around 8.35pm on Sunday.

He approached a member of staff and demanded cash.

He was refused and the offender left empty handed and went down Bowes Street. No one was injured.

The offender is described as a white man in his 20s of medium height wearing a black balaclava and carrying a knife and metal bar.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the attempted shop robbery.

Anyone who was in the area and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious, is asked to contact police.
