And while skipper Josh Robinson admitted to the mood in the camp being ‘jubilant’, he also said that his players will not relax for their final two fixtures of the season.

The Colliers bowled out the Civil Service for 65 then scored the runs, losing only two wickets, and a naturally delighted Robinson said afterwards: “We’ve know for a few weeks that we were probably going to close off the league either this week or next and everyone is jubilant.

“The race for second spot is still quite tight between Shotley and Alnmouth & Lesbury – and as we play Shotley on Saturday, we can have a say in who comes up with us into division three.

“We’ll not relax though because with the pressure now off, we want to go out with a bang.”

Looking ahead to the new challenge, Ashington-born Robinson, 26, said: “We have always wanted to go as high as we could and in the previous league when we were in the B1 division, thought we could challenge against some A2 sides so it will be good to see how the lads perform.

“We’ve needed a new venture for a number of years – and now we have got that chance where we will be competing against the likes of Ashington Rugby.”
