A long-time member of a county yacht club will be presented with a lifetime commitment award.
David Coussons, who has been a member of Blyth’s Royal Northumberland Yacht Club since 1960, will be presented with the award tomorrow (Friday).
The Princess Royal will present him with his award at the annual RYA (Royal Yachting Association) Volunteer Awards.
Commonly known as Davy Boatyard, David has been chairman of both the Moorings and the Boatyard Committees and his willingness to dedicate large amounts of time to the club and maintaining its day-to-day operations, including as a volunteer boat hoist driver, ensures the club continues to run efficiently.
RYA Sport Development Manager Duncan Truswell explains: “The RYA Volunteer Awards are all about celebrating the commitment of the countless volunteers who do fantastic work to support boating in all its forms.
“These people are the lifeblood of our sport; they keep our sailing clubs, events and our organisations thriving and make it possible for others to get out on the water.”
