Award for teenage lifeguard

A teenager has landed a lifeguard award.

Rioghan Bruce, of Loansdean in Morpeth, was chosen as the worthiest winner of Alnwick swimming pool’s annual award for rookie lifeguards by his coaches Tracey Sample and Jock Bolam.

The 13-year-old is training to be a lifeguard at the Alnwick baths as part of a Royal Life Saving Society programme, learning skills that could one day help to save the life of swimmer in trouble at sea or in a pool.

Rioghan was commended by his coaches for his very positive attitude.
