Bakery is expanding into town

A county bakery is continuing to expand as it opens a new store in Morpeth.

Ashington-based Bakers Pantry is the new name for long-established local bakers J Donkin and Anderson’s and was launched back in June.

The shop on Newgate Street, Morpeth, will be the third to open under the new brand, joining stores on Milburn Road and Station Road in Ashington.

The shop premises, which have operated as a bakery since the 1950s, were run by the Anderson family until the 1970s when J Donkin took over.

The new store will be officially opened on Saturday, to coincide with the Morpeth Food and Drink Festival.

Managing director, David Crook, said: “We’re delighted to be opening again in Morpeth. I hope people will enjoy being able to buy old favourites locally, as well as our newer products.

“We are planning to bring Bakers Pantry to even more towns across the region during 2016.”
