The charity has created a new fun method for people in the UK to support it and now is the time to plan what you will do as its first ever Cupcake Day, in association with woman&home, will take place on Thursday, June 16.

The money brought in will be used in various ways – for example, £60 pays for a dementia research-focused blood test and £20 pays for someone to attend an Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Café for a month.

Hannah Woodworth, dementia support worker for the Alzheimer’s Society, said: “We are calling on cake lovers from across the North East to get involved and join our cupcake crusade.

“Whether you want to hold a cupcake sale or simply indulge in a tasty treat, everything you do to support Cupcake Day will help the 35,000 people across the region who are living with dementia, including 4,768 people living in Northumberland.

“Whether you bake, sell or simply buy a cupcake, every cupcake purchased counts.”
